About the Index

The TrustLaw Index of Pro Bono is the Thomson Reuters Foundation’s global benchmark report mapping the scale and trends of the pro bono legal sector around the world.

2024 marks the sixth iteration of the Index, and we are proud to be celebrating 10 years since the Index first launched in 2014. The Index remains one-of-a-kind, offering the legal sector a unique resource to help build robust pro bono practices, and to understand how to get the greatest impact from pro bono work.

The 2024 Index collects data from over 209 firms, representing lawyers in 123 jurisdictions. Our data shows lawyers donated 3.5 million hours of their time assisting charities, non-profits, social enterprises, and individuals free of charge. On average lawyers committed one week (35.6 hours) to pro bono.
